Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, which concluded recently, showcased immense potential for growth and prosperity in the textile, garment, silk, and handloom sectors in the state. According to official sources, a total of eight MoUs were signed, attracting a capital investment of Rs.7,762 crores across 36 units. This is expected to generate 22,000 direct and 66,000 indirect employment opportunities in Odisha.

The revised Odisha Textile and Technical Textile Policy 2022 (OATTP-2022) were launched recently. Six MoUs were signed with major industries, including Shri Maa Textiles, Maa Bhandurga Textiles Private Limited, Vidya Agro Spinning Mills, Tilottama Proprietors, Arundhati Bandhkala, Babusan Knitwear, and Sedra Filtration. These agreements are expected to drive future progress and development in the sector. Additionally, two MoUs were signed with the Textiles Committee/SIDBI and the Central Silk Board for GI-related initiatives and model eco-race conservation in the sericulture sector.

Dignitaries at the event urged leading industrialists, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to invest significantly in textiles, apparel, handlooms, and sericulture, recognizing these sectors as areas of immense potential.

Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 Boosting investment and growthDuring the first session, titled “The Emerging Destination for Textiles, Apparel, and Handlooms”, Odisha’s Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Minister, Pradeep Bala Samanta, emphasized the vast opportunities in the state’s textile and apparel sector. He attributed this to Odisha’s pro-industry policies, robust infrastructure, availability of raw materials, skilled workforce, and experienced weavers, further strengthened by the “double engine” government.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Chandra Pujari, stated that continued investment in the textile and handloom sector aligns with the Purvoday vision of the Prime Minister.

Guha Punam Tapas Kumar, Commissioner and Secretary of the Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Department, highlighted the vast opportunities available in Odisha. She noted that the state’s eight GI-tag-certified handloom products reflect its rich textile heritage. She also emphasized that increased investment would enhance infrastructure, market reach, and skill development while economically empowering weavers and artisans.

The session saw participation from prominent industry players, including M/s Sahi Exports Private Limited, M/s Sahana Groups, Trimetro (EPIC Group), Welspun World Limited, Indorama Synthetics, and MAS Holdings.
