A new area rug from Pottery Barn Teen can trace its origins back to discarded fishnets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic.
The Williams-Sonoma Inc. nameplate has partnered with Aquafil to create the Watercolor Dots rug as part of its Spring 2020 collection. The rug substitute’s virgin nylon with Econyl, a brand of regenerated nylon made from waste gathered in the ocean and other bodies of water.
Aquafil claims Econyl “reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 80 percent compared with material generated from oil. The sustainable yarn maintains the same purity and strength characteristics of nylon coming from fossil material.”
“The Watercolor Dots Rug blends beautiful design and quality performance,” said Aquafil Chairman Giulio Bonazzi. “Pottery Barn Teen was so creative in their color detailing with this line, it was wonderful to see how they took advantage of the aesthetic capabilities of Econyl yarn to further the brand’s bold commitments to responsibly sourced product.”
Econyl’s other floor coverings partners include Masland for carpet/rug tiles and Delos for rugs and carpets.
The regenerated nylon is also applicable for other textiles product categories like sportswear, swimwear, bags and eyewear.
