Bed Bath & Beyond’s new President and CEO is a merchant who has spent more than three decades in retailing. Mark Tritton will join the company and its board of directors effective November 4. He succeeds interim CEO Mary Winston.

Most recently, he served as EVP and chief merchandising officer at Target Corporation, where he was involved in transforming the omni-channel shopping experience. His retail industry experience encompasses merchandising, design, manufacturing, marketing and distribution. In addition to Target, he has held positions at Nordstrom, Timberland and Nike.

“Mark’s ability to re-define the retail experience and drive growth at some of the world’s most successful retailers and brands makes him uniquely equipped to lead Bed Bath & Beyond during this critical time in our evolution,” said Patrick Gaston, Bed Bath & Beyond’s Chairman. Gaston praised Winston for her work as interim CEO, a position she has held since May. “In just a few months, she has put in place a strong foundation for Mark and the wider company to build upon in the years to come,” he said.

Winston will remain on the board and work closely with Tritton and Gaston on the transition. The company said Tritton’s immediate focus will be accelerating the company’s business transformation, improving the omni-channel experience, enhancing the merchandise assortment and reviewing the company’s cost structure and asset base. Winston recently told analysts BBB is entertaining offers to acquire several of its non-core nameplates. Tritton described Bed Bath & Beyond as “one of the most recognizable and best loved retailers in the country today.”

He added: “The foundation of the company’s transformation has been set and I’m excited at the chance to apply my industry experience and expertise to build an even better business for customers, associates, and shareholders.”
