The Woolmark Company has launched the first edition of ‘The Wool Lab Digital’, a platform which will enable users to browse the company’s portfolio of fabrics and yarns. Launched to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the firm’s Wool Lab – which served as a sourcing guide for industry professionals – the online database modernises the service in an accessible, free-to-use manner.

“Extending The Wool Lab into the digital space will enable designers, buyers and sourcing teams to continue to connect with known suppliers and discover new, global suppliers, strengthening supply chain partnerships which is imperative within our industry,” said The Woolmark Company’s General Manager for product innovation and education extension, Julie Davies.

“The Wool Lab is the world’s only collection of curated, innovative yarns, fabrics and processes dedicated to wool and therefore offers an unrivalled and global opportunity for wool textile sourcing,” Davies noted. In line with greater demand for digitisation within the fashion and textile industries then, the firm has compiled its resources within a dedicated space that can be found at www.woolmark.com.

The company insists that the coronavirus pandemic has further cemented the reasoning behind this new platform, as it provides the services that professionals might otherwise have had to otherwise go without amidst travel restrictions.

Once accessed then, users can browse through a collection of fabrics and yarns in order to learn more about the Sydney-based outfit’s portfolio.

The Wool Lab Digital will present four macro-trends of the new market situation and, for each of them, will suggest those fabric innovations that are most suitable. Two of the macro-trends will be released on the platform in February, with the remaining two to be released in May. The two trends revealed thus far are titled ‘In Motion’ and ‘Hybrid’. These will address active wear and leisure apparel, and an abstract approach to apparel design, respectively.
