The scrapped mega integrated textile park near the protected Mattewara forest in Ludhiana, Punjab,may now come up in Fatehgarh Sahib.

As per report, the State’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will write a demi-official letter to Union Minister of Textiles, Piyush Goyal, requesting him to accept the proposal with a changed location.

Government official saying that already 700 acres in Fatehgarh Sahib have been identified for the park. As 1,000 acres are needed, another 300 acres will be acquired.

The Union Government has announced seven PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Park (PM-MITRA) scheme to help generate employment and boost exports.

“I would categorically like to announce that the State Government will not allow any industry to come up not only in Mattewara, but also on the river banks of Punjab to avoid any sort of water pollution,” the Punjab CM had said recently after the strong agitation by public and civil society to protect Matterwara forest.
